Taking care of your skin all year round is important if you want to have healthy skin and fight off the signs of aging. Skin care in the winter is a bit different from skin care in the summer. As seasons change, so should your skin care techniques. It is important that you take the seasonal climate differences into consideration as well as the different activities you may do in the summer compared to the winter. These factors both affect your skin and in turn you need to alter your skin care accordingly.
Different regions of the country have different climates during the seasons of the year. You need to consider your amount of sun exposure. Even in summer the northern states receive less sun than the more southern states, for example. Regardless of the season and what you are doing you will still need to cleanse and moisturize. These are two things that never change no matter what you do, where you live or what time of year it is.
Sunscreens are important for anyone during the summer. When it is summertime and you are going out you should be putting on some form of sun protection cream. Sunscreens range in SPF values from 15 all the way up to 80. The higher the number the more sun protection. Apply your skin cream that includes sun protection in the morning and the lower value SPF creams need to be reapplied every two hours. If you live in states that get a great deal of sun all year like the western states such as California and Arizona you should be wearing sun protection all year. You should also put on some sort of sunblock if you are out in the winter doing any extensive skiing or snow sports. The sun actually reflects off of the snow and can cause sun damage that way.
Skin Care Products To Consider
There are a lot of skin care products out there that contain sunscreens today. One very good one is going to be La Roche-Posay SPF 15. It is great all year and good no matter where you live. Despite the low SPF it is adequate for daily use. It is water resistant, which is great if you are doing any activities in the water during the summer months. It is also hypoallergenic and will not clog your pores like some other skin creams on the market. This are really important features if you are someone with sensitive skin. You will though need to apply it frequently because of the low SPF if you are outdoors a lot and especially in the summer.
In the summer or if you live in California or one of those other states and you do not want to have to reapply your skin cream a lot you may want to consider a higher SPF. Olay SPF 30 and Aveeno 55 are both excellent choices if you are one of these people. Both are good for problem skin and sensitive skin.
Even if you have olive or darker complected skin you should be wearing skin protection. Everyone has a risk of sun burn as well as sun damage. A little known fact about sunscreens is that they can also prevent acne scars from forming. This is an added bonus to wearing and frequently applying your sun protection.
Cleansing and Moisturizing
Properly cleansing is important all year. You need to choose a cleanser that is right for your skin, whether it is oily or is dry. Cleaners for dry skin will help to moisturize while cleansers for oily skin will help to neutralize the skin and decrease the oils. You may have skin that seems to change throughout the year depending upon the weather or your activities and you will need to have cleansers for these conditions. Your winter cleanser may need to be different from your summer cleanser.
Cleanse in the morning and evening and follow each cleansing with a mild moisturizer. Moisturizing is especially important for dry skin, but it is important for oily skin too if you want your skin to be healthy. Moisturizing is especially important for problem skin and you find yourself getting a lot of breakouts throughout the year.
